Time, venue, and participants of the training
Participating in the training session were the Head of the PGS Vietnam Coordination Committee, CEO of the Bac Tom clean food chain – Mr. Tran Manh Chien, two Deputy Heads of the Coordination Committee, Ms. Vu Le Y Voan (senior advisor to the Forest and Farm Facility program of the Vietnam Farmers' Union) and Ms. Nguyen Le Thu Ha (expert in biological control and sustainable development, regional director of Igenomix Vietnam), Ms. Tran Thi Ngoc Mai – Coordination Committee Member, Director of Anisaf, other members of the Coordination Committee, and more than 30 farmers from the Thanh Xuan, Trac Van, and Luong Son intergroups.
At the training session, Mr. Shiokawa – a Japanese expert in organic agriculture – introduced farmers to the basic knowledge of natural farming, through which farmers learned the critical role of soil health in maintaining crop health. Mr. Shio also gave hands-on instructions on how to make green compost. Thanks to direct and easy-to-follow guidance, farmers were very excited to observe and learn.
The training session concluded successfully after more than 2 hours of working and discussion. After the training, Mr. Shiokawa presented a book on natural farming and composting guidelines to the inter-groups to support their daily production practices.
On the morning of the same day, representatives of the PGS Vietnam Coordination Committee and expert Shiokawa inspected the compost at the Thanh Xuan intergroup. Although initial composting methods are time- and labor-intensive, they bring long-lasting and sustainable benefits to farmers.
