Field training coordination between the Sub-Department of Fisheries, Livestock and Veterinary Medicine and Hai Phong University of Medicine and Pharmacy does not stop at disease prevention, but is also a key link in controlling the quality of agricultural products supplied to the city's residents.

Fieldwork activities of preventive medicine students
Continuing the tradition of cooperation since 2012, in March 2026, 36 preventive medicine medical students (Class Y6THDP K14) took part in a meaningful field trip. The approach "One Health" in Hai Phong has now broadened its vision: Human health is only truly secure when food from livestock and aquaculture is strictly controlled from breeding stock to the dining table.
At livestock and slaughtering facilities in An Duong, An Hai, and An Phong wards, students not only learned about diseases but also directly observed the production process of agricultural products. This was an opportunity for future medical doctors to understand that: Safe meat or clean eggs must not only be pathogen-free, but also guaranteed to be free of antibiotic residues or toxic chemicals.
Control risks from livestock farming and slaughtering facilities
During the 3-day study program, the student delegation focused on key topics closely linked to local agricultural production practices:
Identifying risks at slaughterhouses: Monitor veterinary hygiene procedures, ensuring that agricultural products brought to market carry no pathogens causing infectious diseases or food poisoning.
Advisory for livestock farmers: Guiding households to apply biosecure livestock practices, minimizing the misuse of veterinary drugs—a major cause of antimicrobial resistance in humans.
Market linkage and food safety: Clearly understand the relationship between livestock health and the economic value of agricultural produce. Healthy livestock is a prerequisite for high-quality farm produce that meets the consumption standards of Hai Phong urban area.
Fostering the mindset of "Clean agriculture for community health"
In the context of complex disease developments and increasing market demands for organic and clean agricultural products, a workforce with interdisciplinary thinking is essential. Introducing medical students to the field of veterinary medicine helps them realize that protecting public health must begin with ensuring a safe living environment and pathogen-free agri-food sources. Practical knowledge of local disease situations and preventive measures will give future preventive medicine physicians a more comprehensive perspective in formulating public health strategies tied to food security.
This collaborative training program is a practical model that not only enhances students' capacity but also contributes to building a sustainable agri-food monitoring system, working towards a healthy and safe Hai Phong.
