The Government Office has just issued an announcement concluding the remarks of Deputy Prime Minister Pham Thi Thanh Tra at the meeting of the Central Inter-sectoral Steering Committee on Food Safety.

According to the Deputy Prime Minister, ensuring food safety is of paramount importance, directly affecting human health and closely linked to national development resources and national competitiveness.

Meanwhile, in recent times, food poisoning cases have shown a marked increase in both the number of incidents and affected individuals, especially with many outbreaks occurring in educational institutions. Regulating food commerce and advertising on e-commerce platforms, social networks, and online platforms remains challenging.

The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized the need to focus on intensifying information and communication to achieve the highest effectiveness and efficiency in raising awareness and changing behavior across the entire society regarding food safety.

The Deputy Prime Minister requested the Ministry of Health to take the lead and coordinate with relevant ministries and agencies to urgently draft the revised Law on Food Safety.

Food poisoning prevention, especially in educational and training institutions, requires intense focus. Consensus was reached on issuing a Prime Ministerial directive on the issue of food poisoning at educational and training institutions.

Furthermore, the Deputy Prime Minister requested tightening state management of food safety and clearly defining the responsibilities of relevant ministries and agencies, primarily the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment in production management and traceability.

At the same time, dedicated food safety positions must be in place at the commune level. Localities have interagency steering committees, but the chairpersons of provincial and commune People's Committees bear primary responsibility for food safety management in their jurisdictions...

The Deputy Prime Minister requested continued enhancement of inspections, examinations, and strict handling of violations.

Among them, the Ministry of Public Security continues to focus heavily and decisively on combating and suppressing crimes in the field of food safety, as well as businesses producing and trading fake, counterfeit, and substandard goods.

The Ministry of Health takes the lead, coordinating with relevant ministries and agencies to focus on providing guidance on food safety assurance and directing inspections and handling of violations in schools, street food, and small-scale catering services in rural areas.
