On August 17, 2012, at the Cultural House of Dong Bung Village, Hop Hoa Commune, Luong Son District, a field workshop on organic pig farming took place with the participation of the District Farmers' Union, the ADDA project, businesses, local authorities, and representatives of organic producer groups.

First trial batch of organic pigs
Trial plan in Dong Bung group
The trial plan was carried out by Mr. Nguyen Van Son, head of the Dong Bung organic production group, starting in December 2011 with technical and partial financial support from the ADDA-VNFU Organic Agriculture Development Project. By August 2012, the first batch of organic pigs yielded 19 pigs out of the initial 32.
Compared to conventional methods, organic pig farming requires more labor and careful care because it completely avoids industrial feed. The pigs grow more slowly, but the selling price is 40–50% higher.

Technical exchange and prospects
Delegates discussed feed mixing, pig herd care, vaccine usage, and integrating organic animal husbandry with organic crop production. Although the pilot phase did not achieve the expected results due to a local PRRS (blue-ear pig disease) outbreak, members of the Luong Son Inter-group still recognized its potential and were determined to continue the model.
In addition to organic vegetables, organic chicken and pork are expected to help diversify the sources of organic food in consumers' meals.
