Tan Lac District is about 100 km from downtown Hanoi. The local people are predominantly of the Muong ethnic group, engaged in household-scale agricultural production with low incomes. Tan Lac District possesses great potential for developing organic agriculture and tourism thanks to its fresh air, diverse ecosystem, abundant native varieties, and well-preserved traditional culture.

Seed to Table Project
Livelihood and local cultural preservation goals
To improve living standards for small-scale farmers, protect the environment, and preserve and pass on local culinary traditions, the Japanese organization Seed to Table, led by Chief Representative Mayu Indo, implemented the project “Improving Livelihoods for Small-Scale Farmers through Organic Agriculture and Better Market Access”.
In 2012, Seed to Table approached ADDA for consultation on applying the Participatory Guarantee System (PGS), focusing on crop production and animal husbandry, implemented in Dich Giao, Phu Vinh, Nam Son, and Dong Lai communes. The process of establishing the PGS system in Tan Lac received assistance from Mr. Koen den Braber – Advisor for the ADDA-VNFU Organic Agriculture Development Project, and Ms. Tu Thi Tuyet Nhung – Technical Advisor.
Training and quality supervision
Training courses on production techniques, organizational and operational skills for inter-groups and farmer groups, especially in inspection and monitoring of production quality according to PGS Vietnam organic standards, have been prioritized by Seed to Table, which invited prestigious lecturers from PGS and the Northern College of Agriculture & Rural Development to deliver to farmers.
With the active participation of nearly 30 member households, along with the involvement of Tan Lac District's Department of Agriculture, Plant Protection Station, and the Northern College of Agriculture and Rural Development, PGS organic products from Tan Lac will soon be introduced to the network of PGS member stores so that Hanoi consumers can enjoy genuinely high-quality products.
