Ingredients to add to daily drinking water for increased health benefits

Adding turmeric to drinks helps reduce inflammation and relieve pain.

1. Adding turmeric to drinking water

Turmeric is a familiar spice with a distinctive yellow color, containing curcumin, a plant compound with potent antioxidant properties. Turmeric beverages can help reduce inflammation, relieve pain, and support the stabilization of blood sugar and insulin levels.

You can stir turmeric powder into warm water to drink in the morning or steep a turmeric tea bag in hot water.

2. Sliced cucumbers

Cucumber water offers a refreshing, easy-to-drink taste. With its high water content, cucumber helps hydrate the body while providing fiber for better digestion and weight management support.

Adding cucumber to your daily drinking water also contributes to maintaining stable blood pressure. You can prepare a pitcher of cucumber water in advance and store it in the refrigerator to drink throughout the day.

3. Chia Seeds

Chia seeds are rich in antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, and omega-3 fatty acids. Regular consumption of chia seeds is associated with improved bone density and a reduced risk of heart disease.

In addition, chia seeds are packed with soluble fiber, which promotes digestion, lowers cholesterol, and supports gut health. To make chia seed water, simply stir a tablespoon of chia seeds into a glass of water for at least 10–15 minutes to allow the seeds to expand before consuming.

4. Apple cider vinegar

Apple cider vinegar is a fermented product made from apple juice, in which acetic acid is the main component giving it a characteristic tangy flavor. When diluted with water, apple cider vinegar not only enhances flavor but also offers several health benefits, such as supporting blood sugar regulation and healthy weight management.

Due to its high acidity, apple cider vinegar needs to be diluted before drinking, with about one tablespoon per 240 ml of water.

5. Ginger

Ginger has anti-inflammatory properties. Compounds such as gingerols and shogaols in ginger can help reduce inflammation, relieve arthritis pain, support gut health, and soothe stomach discomfort.

Fresh ginger can be steeped in cold water, or ginger powder can be stirred into hot water for use.

6. Black pepper

Black pepper is a familiar spice made from dried peppercorns, giving water a distinct pungent and spicy flavor when added. This spice contains compounds with anti-inflammatory properties, supports brain function, improves gut health, and exerts antibacterial effects. Some studies also show that black pepper helps control blood sugar and improve insulin sensitivity.

You can steep whole peppercorns in hot water, let it cool overnight, and drink it as a mildly spicy morning beverage.

7. Honey

Honey can help relieve coughs and soothe sore throats thanks to its high antioxidant content, while also supporting immune system function. In addition, honey possesses antiviral, antibacterial, and antifungal properties. However, due to its high sugar content, honey should be consumed in moderation.

Mixing honey into drinking water helps boost immunity.

8. Fruits

Besides lemons, many other fruits can be used to naturally flavor daily drinking water. Citrus fruits are rich in vitamin C and high in water content, helping to support immunity and boost resistance.

You can add sliced fruit to a large pitcher of water, chill it for a few hours to infuse the flavors, and sip it throughout the day to both quench thirst and stay hydrated.
