Which standards govern Vietnamese organic vegetables?

The production and labeling of organic vegetables in Vietnam are guided by national standards alongside various voluntary domestic and international standard systems.

Which standards govern Vietnamese organic vegetables?

Vietnamese National Standards (TCVN) for organic vegetables are now available

Guidance scope of TCVN 11041:2015

TCVN 11041:2015, issued by the Ministry of Science and Technology, provides guidelines for the production, processing, labeling, and marketing of organic food. Decree 80/2013/ND-CP governs sanctions against violations regarding standards and quality of goods and products.

Because national standards are copyrighted and have not been widely disseminated, many production facilities were unaware that Vietnam already had organic standards.

Other models and standards

  • PGS is recognized by IFOAM and implemented in numerous production areas across Vietnam.
  • ADB CAPSII/TA8163 REG Project supporting organic agriculture development in Greater Mekong Subregion countries.
  • Some enterprises apply USDA-NOP, EU Organic Farming, or IFOAM standards.
  • Hanoi once issued provisional technical guidelines for organic vegetable production.
