On August 17, 2012, at the Community Cultural House of Đồng Bưng Village, Hợp Hòa Commune, Lương Sơn District, a field workshop on organic pig farming took place with the participation of the District Farmers' Union, the ADDA project, enterprises, local authorities, and representatives of organic production groups.

First trial batch of organic pigs
Trial plan in the Đồng Bưng group
The trial plan was carried out by Mr. Nguyễn Văn Sơn, head of the Đồng Bưng organic production group, starting in December 2011 with technical and partial financial support from the ADDA-VNFU Organic Agriculture Development Project. By August 2012, the first batch of organic pigs yielded 19 pigs from an initial 32.
Compared to conventional methods, organic pig farming requires more labor and careful management because it completely avoids industrial feed. The herd develops more slowly, but the selling price is 40–50% higher.

Technical exchange and outlook
Delegates discussed feed mixing, herd care, vaccine usage, and combining organic animal husbandry with organic crop farming. Although the trial did not achieve the expected results due to a local outbreak of blue ear disease, members of the Lương Sơn Inter-group still recognized its potential and were determined to continue the model.
In addition to organic vegetables, organic chickens and pigs are expected to help diversify the sources of organic food in consumers' meals.
