Efficiency of safe and organic vegetable production

In recent years, to improve the quality and value of agricultural products, many farms and cooperatives in Thạch Thất district have stepped up the development of safe and organic vegetable production. These models have gradually demonstrated high economic efficiency.

Effective models

VietGAP and organic vegetable models in Hanoi

Mr. Nguyễn Đỗ Ban, Director of Hương Ngải Agricultural Cooperative, said that all vegetables of the Cooperative adhere to the VietGAP safety process. Farmers are regularly trained and practice proper cultivation techniques, using plant protection products and fertilizers correctly, so the Cooperative's vegetable and root crop brand has won over many demanding customers. Many products have been recognized with 3-4 OCOP stars.

In Yên Bình commune, Hoa Viên farm has a scale of over 30 hectares, specializing in organic vegetable production, with many types of wild vegetables and specialty herbs now available in modern distribution channels and clean food store chains. With a rigorous production process and strict compliance with organic vegetable production regulations, the farm has achieved international certifications and continuously improved product quality.

Income and production value

According to Head of the Economic Department of Thạch Thất district Hoàng Chí Lượng, the locality has more than 200 hectares of safe vegetable production under the PGS model, concentrated in the communes of Hương Ngải, Dị Nậu, Yên Trung, Bình Yên, and Yên Bình. Farmers receive training in production processes, so products brought to market meet food safety standards.

On average, each model achieves 300 million VND/ha/year or more, with some models reaching 700-800 million VND/ha/year; the average income of workers in safe vegetable production models reaches 4-7 million VND/person/month.

Development orientation

In addition to positive results, safe and organic vegetable production still faces challenges because the converted area remains small and fragmented, not yet forming large-scale concentrated zones; branding and traceability are underdeveloped, and market outlets remain precarious.

Thạch Thất continues to establish clean land reserves in designated concentrated planning zones, connect businesses with farmers through off-take contracts, build brands, and apply traceability stamps. The district is also investing in transport, electricity, canals, storage, and preliminary processing facilities in concentrated production zones, contributing to increasing farmers' income.
