With the assistance of PGS Vietnam, the farmer training course on organic vegetable farming in Thanh Đông village, Cẩm Thanh commune – Hội An city concluded after 5 weeks of training comprising 15 class sessions.

Organic knowledge and practical vegetable farming techniques
This is a project responding to the new rural development program of Cẩm Thanh commune with support from the Economic Department of Hội An city and the Action Center for City Development (ACCD) – a non-governmental organization.
Basic knowledge and principles of organic agriculture, as well as vegetable cultivation techniques, were introduced in the training course. Classroom knowledge was simultaneously guided directly by instructors for immediate application in the fields at the Thanh Đông organic production area during the afternoons.
Establishing a dedicated PGS system for Hội An
To help farmers market their products, in parallel with technical production training, PGS Vietnam helped Hội An establish its own PGS system to monitor, inspect, and certify products produced using organic methods. This is the first organic vegetable production model in Central Vietnam to establish its own PGS system and apply PGS Vietnam organic standards recognized by IFOAM.
Under the ADB project TA 8163 “Core Agriculture Support Program Phase 2, Greater Mekong Subregion”, IFOAM, in its advisory role, officially selected Hội An as one of two pilot models in Vietnam to support PGS development.
