On August 12, 2024, at Thanh Nhan Village Cultural House, Thanh Xuan Commune, Soc Son District, Hanoi, the PGS Vietnam Coordination Board organized a training session for farmers from the Thanh Xuan, Trac Van, and Luong Son inter-groups.

Natural Farming Learning Program
Time, Location, and Participants
The training session was attended by Mr. Tran Manh Chien, Head of the PGS Vietnam Coordination Board and CEO of the Bac Tom organic and safe food chain; two Deputy Heads of the Coordination Board: Ms. Vu Le Y Voan (Senior Advisor for the Forest and Farm Facility of the Vietnam Farmers' Union) and Ms. Nguyen Le Thu Ha (expert in biological control and sustainable development, Regional Director of Igenomix Vietnam); Ms. Tran Thi Ngoc Mai, Member of the Coordination Board and Director of Anisaf; other Coordination Board members; and more than 30 farmers from the Thanh Xuan, Trac Van, and Luong Son inter-groups.
During the training, Mr. Shiokawa, a Japanese organic agriculture expert, introduced farmers to the foundational principles of natural farming, emphasizing the critical role soil health plays in sustaining plant vigor. Mr. Shiokawa also provided hands-on guidance on green manure composting techniques. Thanks to the practical and straightforward demonstrations, farmers were eager to observe, practice, and learn.
The training session concluded successfully after more than two hours of productive work and discussion. Following the session, Mr. Shiokawa presented a book on natural farming and composting guidelines to the inter-groups to assist them in their daily farming operations.
Earlier that morning, representatives of the PGS Vietnam Coordination Board and expert Shiokawa inspected the compost piles at the Thanh Xuan inter-group. While initial composting requires time and dedication, it brings long-term, sustainable benefits to farmers.
