The Government Office has just issued a notice outlining the conclusions of Deputy Prime Minister Pham Thi Thanh Tra at a meeting of the Central Inter-sectoral Steering Committee on Food Safety.

According to the Deputy Prime Minister, ensuring food safety is of paramount importance, directly affecting public health and closely tied to national development resources and the country's competitiveness.

Meanwhile, recent times have seen a noticeable increase in both the number of food poisoning incidents and affected individuals, especially with multiple outbreaks occurring in educational institutions. Managing the trade and advertising of food on e-commerce platforms, social networks, and online services continues to face numerous challenges.

The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized the need to intensify communication and public awareness efforts to achieve the highest efficiency in shifting societal attitudes and behaviors regarding food safety.

The Deputy Prime Minister instructed the Ministry of Health to lead and coordinate with relevant ministries and agencies to urgently draft the Law on Food Safety (amended).

Food poisoning prevention, especially within educational and training institutions, requires intense focus. There is consensus on issuing a Prime Ministerial Directive on food poisoning issues at schools and educational facilities.

Additionally, the Deputy Prime Minister called for tighter state management over food safety, clearly delineating the responsibilities of relevant ministries and agencies, primarily the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment in supervising production and ensuring traceability.

At the same time, it is essential to ensure dedicated food safety personnel at the commune level. While localities have inter-sectoral steering committees, the chairpersons of provincial and commune-level People's Committees bear primary responsibility for food safety management within their jurisdictions...

The Deputy Prime Minister directed the continued strengthening of inspections, audits, and the rigorous handling of violations.

In particular, the Ministry of Public Security will maintain strong, decisive enforcement to crack down on crimes in food safety, as well as businesses involved in the production and trade of fake, counterfeit, and substandard food products.

The Ministry of Health will take the lead and coordinate with relevant ministries and agencies to focus on providing guidance on food safety assurance and overseeing inspections and sanctions against violations in schools, street food, and small-scale food service establishments in rural areas.
